School Ordered To Pay Compensation To Pupil Injured In Fight

The attacker pleaded guilty to the crime

A court in Malaga has ordered that a high school pay p pupil compensation to a pupil who was attacked by a fellow student during school hours
The attack happened on the 22nd June 2011 at Antonio Gala High School in Alhaurun El Grande during a football match
A fight broke out between two of the students and one slapped the other in the face. The injured student returned home but had to be treated for a broken jaw. None of the school’s teachers were aware of the fight or the injury.
The attacker, his parents and the school have been ordered to pay the victim €47,048 in compensation.
In addition the attacker must go to social integration courses for six months and complete 50 hours of community service after pleading guilty.
It was decided by the court that the teachers failed to control the pupils properly and endangered their health and safety.
The Junta de Andalucia Education Department can appeal the sentence before the Provincial Court.
