Heavy Rain Brings Chaos To Malaga Province

More rain is forecast for next weekend

A weekend of heavy rain across the Costa Del Sol and Inland Andalucia has brought flooding to many areas.Malaga was the worst affected although there were reports of flooding and damage in Casabermeja, Almogía, Canillas de Aceituno, Monda, Alhaurin de la Torre, Alcaucín, Comares, Torre del Mar and Villanueva del Rosario
The 112 emergency service dealt with a total of of 483 incidents, from midnight on Saturday until 12:00 hours on Sunday, most of them related to waterlogging of houses, garages, and basements and problems across the road network
There was flooding reported in some of the hospitals in the capitol
Across the province people had to be rescued as rivers bust their banks. In Casabermeja 20 people had to be rescued and in Monda a family had to be rescued when the Arroyo Caserín overflowed . In the town of Almogía another family had to be evacuated and in Alhaurin de la Torre 20 farm workers had to be rescued.
The heavy rain also caused major problems on the roads with landslides causing blockages on the highways and their were numerous reports of flooding.
The were also reports of flooding in school buildings across Malaga
Bars and shops in the city center had to close as water levels rose causing flooding and bringing more financial problems for the cities businesses.
The chaos was made worse by the heavy winds and there was even a Tornado at Malaga Airport on Saturday. Gusts of over 90 km/h caused damage right across the Costa Del Sol.
There was some good news with forecasters predicting dry weather for the next few days but another wet spell is predicted for next weekend.
